This series began in the early waking hours.

I had been tossing and turning through a restless night
and these words floated before me as a line of type
as I floated up into consciousness.

It’s not uncommon for painting ideas to come to me in dreams.

But mostly these are visual cues
wherein the muses taunt me with their suggestions
or juxtapositions
which are mostly fully formed compositions
that require very little tweaking on my part.

This time…not so much.
Take this title
just these simple words dear artist
and run with it.

I transcribed it quickly into my notebook
and the first thing image that came to mind was the origami crane
which is an object that has been twirling around in the back of my mind for years
so that, when I sat down at the kitchen table
with a perfectly trimmed square of white paper before me,
the tiny bird almost folded itself.

The resulting compositions turned into a tryptich
and I got to revisit some old and true prop friends.

Solid, spiritual and earthly forms
the rock, the violin and the old organ keys
are such perfect companions
to that delicate silhouette
of peace.
