Island Soul

Exultation is the going
Of an island soul to sea.
Past the houses –
Past the headlands-
Into deep Eternity.

This poem,
on newsprint which is aging to a tea stained brown
torn from the top of the Vineyard Gazette January 22,1999,
has been tacked up above the stained glass window in the studio.
Watching and waiting.

A long awaited morning has arrived.
The truck is packed.
Herself takes one last deep breath
and declares that we are “in vacation mode”.
We are taking our Island Souls to this bluff.
And up to this chair.
And the sea.

Exultation indeed.
