Pat’s Sunrise

It’s Pat’s because of the chair.
We’ve spent hours
in that chair
on that bluff
in each of our twenty years together.

Almost always
accompanied by two books
a bag of knitting
a pair of binoculars
a box of Chilmark Chocolates
a glass of wine
and…
a big furry Bernese Mt. Dog
laying behind it in our shadow.

It’s quiet there
because the waves
and the slope of the bluff
cancel out most of the noisy bits.

Which makes it
a grand place
to listen.
