Tucked In

It’s a well known island fact
that when you make your way up island
and you cross over the Quitsa bridge
the rest of the world
disappears.

Like crossing a moat
and entering the safety of a castle’s keep
the drawbridge lifts
the dragons come to a screeching halt
and the road rises up to meet you.

Ahead lie calm waters
simple beauty
layers of light
soft sweet air
and peace.

Take a book
and a friend
and a cold one down to the dock
while you’re waiting for the tide to come in
I left the oars there for you
all tucked in.
