I am Zoë’s Mima.
This makes me happy.
So does her smile
her giggles
that eye brow that raises
when she is puzzling out whether or not I am teasing
the length of time she will study a dandelion
and how still her breathing becomes
when she is painting at her easel
beside my easel
the way she crosses her legs
and rests her chin on her hand
when she is the shop keeper
her sighing heavily when
she tells me about how her dog ran too fast
and has to have a cast on his leg
and she won’t be able to walk him for daaaaaays
I am still finding white price tags
taped in corners of the studio
three feet from the floor
that she remembers where I put my keys
and that we tell each other our dreams
and at dinner
what were our favorite parts of the day
that the chalk outline of her 5 year old body
is still visible on the studio porch
as she is about to turn 6
and that we both
love butter.
