Green Bean Tea

This year has been kind to the bean.

Even though I was very late getting them planted
the new system of growing them in separate small beds
connected by a length of chicken wire
allowed space and air and light for the plants
and they took off for the sky.

I am a novice farmer.

One who uses the gardens
as a meaningful excuse
to work outside.

But the artist in me has to say
that there is so much beauty
in the smallest gesture
of a brand new bean
slipping gracefully from its flower…

That it simply
takes my breath away.
