You know…

This thing actually works.

It is sour cherry pie time again
and I had six quarts to pit
and not a lot of time
so I thought what the heck
let’s see what kind of metal
this metal is made of.

I clamped it onto the kitchen table
pulled one of the teacups from the shelf
and tried one tentative crank.

Presto,
that pit popped right into the cup
and I had one empty cherry.

There was a bit of a learning curve
to achieve maximum speed
and I did have to check often to
make certain that each pit was coming free.

But it was a blast to see it perform.

And on the side which is not shown in this painting
the lettering reads Mt. Joy, PA.

So this magnificent machine
began its life a scant five miles across the river from my studio
as the crow flies.
