Outside of this studio
a blizzard is raging.
Almost three feet already
and the wind is forcing a thin wedge of crystals
through the crack in the doorway.

I pour a steaming cup of constant comment tea
from the thermos beside the easel
and with the tiniest brush
concentrate on rendering
each line of the pattern on this saucer.

Leaving the storm behind,
I am transported to the Algonquin Hotel.
And the circle of conversations which must have lingered
over just such a saucer.

COMMENT
Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
A medley of exptemporanea;
And love is a thing that can never go wrong;
And I am Marie of Roumania.
