Spoon Carver’s Tea

Every time I look at this painting
even now, a decade or more after it was done
I want to drop everything…
this keyboard at which I sit
slaving over the new website building project
which has me reviewing every single painting
that I have ever finished

the brushes
which are waiting for me patiently
at the easel
which has been getting cold
as I spend more working hours
here at the computer

I look at the axe
the hooked spoon knife
the wicker basket
in which I keep the spoon carving tools

I just want to stop
pick up a hunk of cherry
take a sip of gunpowder tea
and make more of those
lovely curled shavings.
