Still Life with Carbs

This year’s recipe painting.

For months I was planning this painting
and dreaming of all the crabs we were not allowed to eat on the SB diet.
I even enlisted the help of Vanessa and Todd to secure and empty two
Offshore Ale bottles for the quintessential Vineyard carb.
(A mission they most eagerly agreed to I might add.)

But when it came time to shop locally for the spread we disappointedly found a
basket full of muted very beige food. Bread and pasta and more bread.
I wanted a vibrant display full of life and robust color.
So we bagged most of the bread and drove across town to the farmer’s market
and filled our arms with the makings of a fresh tomato sauce
to go with our elicit pasta and baguette.

As you can tell by my still oh so robust frame…
I need to tape this painting to my fridge and dream on…
