This one is so simple.
The onions seedlings
are the first to join me
in the studio winter nursery.
I hover every morning
until they peak out of the soil
their burst of green
so welcome in the long drought
of brown
and white.
The struggle to unfold
that tender spike
and the desperate clinging
to the source of all energy
the seed.
Walking home one night
on the day of their rising
I tripped over the shadow
of a super moon.
That was all the Muses needed.
And the next morning
I picked out another teacup
and began the cycle anew.
