Here in my Pennsylvania studio the November sky is painting itself.
It is a time of transition.
I am moving into the realization of the dream of being a full time artist.
I have rutted out the closets and Feng Shui’d the kitchen readying home and soul for the turning of the new century.
There are new brushes in old jars and panels leaning upon panels prepped for the painting. New Year’s Eve and I begin again with a return to my Vineyard roots.
I want this painting to be about weather.
Primary colors for its rainbow center and a darkness that travels from left to right and angles back into the light.
This sunporch offers a haven of warmth on our October days when the breeze overtakes the sun and the pup,
Herself and I need to nap between sunrise walks and sunsets by the fireside with books to read and sweaters to knit.
Curled up on the benches or leaning over the jigsaw puzzle, the clouds can sneak up on the horizon while your backs are turned.
Morning shadows faded and the gulls moving inland.
The wind swirling in an indigo echo of the waves.
A Squibnocket Squall.
On the sunporch, seeking refuge, there is always a choice. Stay put. Stay safe.
Or….lift the slicker and head up to the bluff to see if the surfers are braving the point.
There are two chairs. One up there on the bluff. An offering to the brave.
And one inside the sturdy shell of the porch. An offering to the wise.
Will you rock or will you roll?
