The Flying Lesson

Dear little Patches

She who lives beneath the myrtle
and romps between the straw bales…

nibbles on the baby beetroot
and harmonizes with the wrens…

the first to sip the morning’s dew
and the last to leave the sunflower castings at night…

Patches is brave
and bold
and soft
and kind…

and she has never
ever asked for anything
for her wee precious self…

until she saw the teacup
and brought me a small bit of string…

and pointed to the clouds
and whispered…please.
