Vineyard Time

Once again Mr. Morse comes through.
He mentioned this dictionary to me a couple years ago and last fall Pat and I finally made it into
the Gazette offices to take a peek. We asked to see the old dictionary and the receptionist led us
to the hall in the next room and it sat on a stand under an old lamp.
As I was taking reference shots of it one of the editors walked through.
“Are you the painter ?”
“I thought Chris meant the dictionary upstairs”
Up we went and the rest is history.

Months later, when I was in the middle of this painting, a writer for the paper called to interview
me for an article. I told her it was interesting that I was painting the clock in the room where she
writes. Turns out she was there the day I came to see it but must have had her nose to the
keyboard because she doesn’t remember my intrusion.
It is a very busy place when they’re putting that wonderful paper to bed.
