This is not one,
but every corn field in Pennsylvania.
The land where my ancestors were born
and where a goodly part of my life has been spent wandering.
Where I was introduced to Mary Oliver’s poetry.
Her poems inform me as an artist
and help to focus the work,
as I try to focus the brush,
on the intimate experience of the nature
that surrounds us.
A whispered second chance.
Indeed.
